Meet Susan Copley, our rector

I have been the rector since April, 2007 and it is my joy to be a part of this faith community. I am the 16th rector of Christ Church and San Marcos Mission.

Originally I worked as a nurse to children with cancer. During those years I learned much about God's presence in pain and suffering, as well as in more joyful moments.

During the terrible civil war in Liberia, West Africa I served there as an Episcopal missionary nurse. There I met my husband, who was an aid worker.

After three years in Liberia, we moved to Bolivia to continue serving as missionaries. Our daughter Megan was just five months old. We served in the city of Cochabamba, in the Andes Mountains, with Amistad Orphanage and the Anglican Church.

After four years, David and I returned to the States to begin study to become priests. David and I graduated from Virginia Theological Seminary in 2003 and were ordained to the priesthood together. Together we served at St. John's Church in Hampton, Virginia for three years before moving to New York

David is currently serving as Director of Mission Personnel at the Episcopal Church Center in Manhattan. Megan is studying at Univ. of Edinburgh.

My faith has been challenged, stretched, and nurtured over the years, and I now have a deep conviction that God's embrace is wide, faith isn't rigidly defined, and God really does love you (and me) madly.
