For much of 2014 and 2015 we were honored to comfort and assist the refugees from much of Latin America coming through nearby Abbott House. Each week a group from Christ Church would go over to play games, get to know them, and lead a worship service with them. One of the most endearing developments was the record that they left - their prayers. Prayers for what? Prayers for everything as they had to learn everything afresh. To help them feel some community as they were moved from place to place, we provided the prayer cross. Most of the refugees wrote out a prayer on a piece of cloth. They tied it onto a wooden cross and soon the prayers were many layers deep on the cross. We assured them that this was precious to us and would be honored in our church. So, at this Christmastime, the prayer cross receive pride of place at the center of the church.
